HUST chaired the GMSARN Network Board Meeting

On November 17, the Hanoi University of Science and Technology hosted the Board Meeting of the Mekong Subregion Education and Research Network (GMSARN). Representatives from 16 member universities attended the meeting, engaging in discussions about cooperation and development strategies to foster a sustainable GMSARN network.

Since its establishment in 2007, the Greater Mekong Subregion Academic and Research Network has emerged as a reliable platform connecting regional universities. The 16 member universities, prominent educational institutions in their respective countries, play a vital role in advancing socio-economic development in the region. During the meeting, Associate Professor Nguyen Phong Dien, Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, highlighted the significant potential for collaboration in various aspects, including research, student and staff exchange, joint academic development, and co-organization of conferences.

Emphasizing Hanoi University of Science and Technology's commitment to supporting the establishment of a sustainable GMSARN network, he recommended innovative approaches to promoting conferences, programs, and activity themes annually to foster the network's continuous development.

Looking ahead, the network envisions closer coordination with host universities in communication plans and budget mobilization. It aims to invite renowned international scholars and establish connections with reputable scientific journals. The thematic focus of activities may revolve around digital transformation, leadership and management, university-industry linkages, student and staff exchange, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Diverse and practical initiatives are expected to enhance opportunities for cooperation, connection, and strengthen solidarity among member schools.

As part of the GMSARN Network's activities in Hanoi, the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Asian Institute of Technology and the Network Secretariat, organized the 18th GMSARN International Conference on "Smart Energy, Environment, and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta." The two-day conference, held on November 16-17, attracted 46 articles and nearly 100 scientists. It provided a valuable platform for researchers to exchange ideas and contribute positively to the sustainable development of the region.

Associate Professor Huynh Quyet Thang, President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, expressed the University's commitment to contributing to the region's sustainable development. As Vietnam's leading technical university, HUST plays a key role in advancing the country's green transformation agenda. Upgraded to a comprehensive, multidisciplinary research university in 2022, HUST has established research groups in various fields related to sustainable development, such as smart grids, renewable energy, waste treatment, and pollution reduction. He also affirmed that the topics shared in this year's conference align with the university's priority research areas. Therefore, Hanoi University of Science and Technology aspires to make a substantial contribution to the network, fostering collaboration opportunities among scientists in research and academic activities."
