“Compared to previous years, the International Conference on Emerging Challenges 2023 (ICECH2023) witnessed a marked surge in foreign participation, underscoring its burgeoning reputation among both local and global researchers”, Assoc. Prof. Pham Thi Thanh Hong, Vice Dean of the School of Economics and Management at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, shared this insight during the two-day conference themed "Smart Business and Digital Economy," held on November 3-4.
The conference, now in its 11th iteration, attracted over 160 research papers from scholars in 23 countries, including major players like the US, UK, France, Germany, Japan, China, Indonesia, Taiwan, and New Zealand. The chosen theme, "Smart Business and Digital Economy" resonated widely, particularly within the context of domestic businesses seeking pragmatic insights for effective digital transformation.
The digital economy in the next decade is poised to contribute approximately 25% to global GDP. The dynamic growth of the world's digital economy holds promise for developing nations like Vietnam, yet it is not without its challenges, encompassing infrastructure, information technology, and human resources. The rise of the platform economy, fueled by cutting-edge technologies such as algorithmic systems and big data analysis, is fundamentally reshaping business operations, collaboration, and value creation. The conference aimed to provide a platform for domestic and international researchers, scientists, and managers to exchange ideas, share information, and discuss advancements in the realms of digital economy, green economy, smart business, and innovative management.
Distinguished experts from Fordham University (USA), Cardiff University of Business (UK), and EM Normandie School of Business (France) delivered insightful presentations on emerging technology trends in business, blockchain applications in economics, and the green economy with a focus on ESG standards.
A pivotal roundtable discussion featured representatives from businesses, policymakers, and researchers, including Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh (Director, E-commerce Development Center - Ministry of Industry and Trade), Ms. Nguyen Phuong Thanh (EY Consulting Vietnam), and Prof. Benjamin M. Cole (Fordham University, USA). Their practical analyses and global insights aimed to propel both businesses and governments toward innovative future advancements. Assoc. Prof. Thanh Hong expressed satisfaction with the positive feedback, highlighting the event's success in presenting engaging and practical perspectives on deploying quantitative analysis in economics using new tools and methods.
The conference was jointly organized by the School of Economics and Management (HUST), the University of Economics - Faculty of International Affairs (Vietnam National University), Faculty of Business Administration (Vietnam University of Economics), Foreign Trade University, University of Economics (Da Nang University), Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, AVSE Global Organization (France), University of Hertfordshire (UK) and PPM Business School (Indonesia) with sponsorship from HUST, Netnam Company and ICAEW Vietnam. The 12th conference is expected to be hosted by Foreign Trade University in November 2024.
