Groundbreaking Ceremony of C7 Building

On March 23rd, 2021, under the Support for Autonomous Higher Education Project for Vietnam – SAHEP, the groundbreaking ceremony for construction works and equipment installation of C7 building took place at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST).

Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Tran Van Top announced that HUST is implementing a part of Component 1 of the SAHEP Project (Support for Autonomous Higher Education Project for Vietnam) which is funded by the World Bank. The project’s aim is to improve research, teaching, and governance in higher education.

The value of the project’s component at HUST is 50 million USD; of which 45 million US dollars is borrowed from the World Bank and 5 million US dollars is the matching fund from HUST. The implementation period is from 2018 to 2022.

Upon the completion of the project (tentative December 31st, 2022), HUST will have a new building with 15 training laboratories and 15 research laboratories for the two priority fields: Electricity – Electronics and Mechatronics and Material Science.

The signing and implementation of the SAHEP project exemplified a strong commitment and a careful plan of the university. Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Training, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son extended his heartfelt thanks to the university presidential board, especially to Assoc. Prof. Tran Van Top who plays an essential role in making this project possible.

The representative of World Bank, Ms. Steffi Stallmeister acknowledged the tremendous effort of the leaders and staff to overcome several challenges to implement the SAHEP Project. She also expressed her hope that the project will enhance the training and research quality, contributing to improving the university’s rankings globally.

On behalf of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, President –Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang conveyed his gratitude to the World Bank and the Ministry of Education and Training, especially the Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son for their strong support to the project. Assoc Prof. Thang also extended his thanks and paid special tribute to the SAHEP Project Management Unit and University’s staff for their hard work to make this groundbreaking ceremony possible. "This important milestone is also a great start which significantly contributes to the 65th anniversary of Hanoi University of Science and Technology” - he said.

Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang also emphasized the university’s commitment to pursue education and research at the highest levels of excellence. He expressed the desire for the university to have more impactful innovative projects, especially in the four global challenges research areas including Advanced Materials; Data Technology and Intelligence Systems; Sustainable Energy and the Environment; and Health Sciences and Technology.

On December 27, 2008, the SAHEP project, credit number 6036-VN, officially took effect.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology implements the subproject of Component 1 with a total investment of 50 million USD, including 45 million USD of ODA loans.

The project is implemented from 2017 - 2022.
