Celebrating 50th years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and New Zealand (1975 - 2025), on February 26, Christopher Luxon, Prime Minister of New Zealand, attended the New Zealand - Vietnam EduConnect event at Foreign Trade University (Hanoi). The event focused on enhancing international cooperation, academic exchanges, and opportunities for students.
Expand study abroad opportunities in New Zealand for Vietnamese students
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon called the New Zealand - Vietnam EduConnect a key milestone in strengthening education ties, academic exchanges, and opportunities for students and institutions. He emphasized New Zealand’s world-class education system, with all eight universities ranked in the global top 2%, and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to supporting Vietnamese students through advanced education and real-world international experience. At the event, the 2025 scholarships for Vietnamese students were officially announced, with applications open from May 1 to August 31. The government will enhance support through three key programs: the New Zealand Universities Awards (NZUA) for outstanding undergraduates, 39 Manaaki Scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and 45 New Zealand Schools Scholarships (NZSS) for top high school students seeking to study in New Zealand. In addition, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and the founders officially launched the Vietnam - New Zealand Alumni Network (NZAN). The network aims to connect Vietnamese alumni, foster knowledge exchange, and support collaboration among former students.
HUST partners with Media Design School (New Zealand)
At the event, the Media Design School (New Zealand) and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) exchanged a cooperation agreement, strengthening their commitment to build an international learning environment for students. Ruth Cooper, Country Director, Media Design School and Co-Chair of the Quality Tertiary Institutions highlighted the partnership’s goal of fostering cultural exchange and preparing students for careers in the fast-evolving digital and technology sectors.
For HUST, expanding global collaboration is a key focus in 2025 under their 2017-2025 development strategy. The MoU signing marks a significant step toward strengthening academic ties between New Zealand and Vietnam, providing students with global learning experiences in an era of rapid technological advancement.
