On December 29, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) hosted the 17th Red Sunday blood drive, marking the 31st annual HUST Thousand Drops of Hope program.
This is the ninth consecutive year that HUST has hosted the event in partnership with Tien Phong newspaper, the National Traffic Safety Committee, and the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT). The vibrant atmosphere of the event.
According to Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Phong Dien, Vice President of HUST, the university collects 1,500 to 2,000 blood units annually, the highest nationwide. The initiative encourages students to engage in social activities, fostering a strong sense of community and holistic development. Assoc. At the donation site, Nguyen Van Thien, a fourth-time donor and Mechatronics Engineering student from Cohort 67, shared, “Being young and healthy, I would donate blood whenever I can. My two roommates and I came together for today’s event.”
Doan Duc Hiep, a Engineering Physics student from Cohort 68, proudly said, “For two years at HUST, I’ve participated in both Red Sundays. Coming from a family of doctors, I understand the critical need for blood reserves through my mother’s stories. She encourages me to donate, and I aim to give as much as possible.”
Red Sunday is a program with deep humanitarian significance, showcasing the responsibility, social spirit, and enthusiasm of HUST students and alumni. Dr. Nguyen Duc Trung, Deputy Head of the Volunteer Youth Committee, emphasized the need to spread this spirit, as “one blood unit can save a life.”
