2024 HUST Trade Union Sports Festival Wraps Up with Sportsmanship

On November 30, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) hosted the closing ceremony of the 2024 Trade Union Sports Festival.

This year's event celebrated the 42nd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (November 20, 1982 – November 20, 2024) and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 – December 22, 2024).

“This is the most anticipated sports event of the year!” affirmed Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Phong Dien, Vice President of HUST, at the closing ceremony. The event is not only an opportunity for HUST's staffs and faculties to enhance fitness but also to strengthen unity and team spirit.

The event featured over 950 athletes from 32 units, forming 25 teams to compete in five sports: football, badminton, table tennis, tug-of-war, and racewalking.  

Following the opening ceremony on November 5, the table tennis and badminton tournaments and awards took place across various categories: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles.

The football tournament spanned nearly a month, with 10 teams competing in two groups. At the thrilling final, held on the same day as the Closing Ceremony, the defending champions, the School of Materials Science and Engineering team, secured a convincing victory over  the Hanoi Vocational College of Technology team. The title of "Top Scorer" went to Do Xuan Truong (No. 19) from the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, while the "Best Player" and "Best Goalkeeper" titles were claimed by Nguyen Van Duy (No. 20) and Nguyen Pham Duy Linh (No. 1) from the School of Materials Science and Engineering team.

The final day of the sports festival also featured exciting competitions in tug-of-war and racewalking. The tug-of-war event drew 24 teams, each with 10 members (5 men, 5 women). In a thrilling final, the Hanoi Vocational College of Technology team 2 defeated the formidable School of Economics and Management. For racewalking - the most popular event with nearly 250 participants, categories included individual races for men and women (under 40 and over 40) and relay races.

The 2024 HUST Trade Union Sports Festival highlighted the spirit of enthusiasm and teamwork of staff and faculty at HUST. Athletes not only competed with themselves but also motivated one another, fostering a dynamic atmosphere. The cheers and support from students further energized the event, showcasing the power of HUSTers and HUST's spirit.
