This morning (October 29), leaders of Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna, Austria held a meeting and renewed their memorandum of understanding (MoU). This is the fourth MoU between two parties after over two decades of close partnership.
In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, President of HUST, emphasized the significance of the renewed agreement in tackling global challenges and advancing sustainable development. “This partnership will create new opportunities for our students, researchers, and faculty members and enable them to engage in cutting-edge research and expand their academic networks […] in critical areas such as bioengineering, chemistry, and food technology,” he stated.
In response, Prof. Eva Schulev-Steindl, Rector of BOKU, affirmed that the key areas of cooperation between the two universities not only contribute to the national development of Vietnam and Austria but also address global issues.
Reflecting on over 20 years of collaboration between the two universities, Dr. Nguyen Tien Thanh, Director of Center for Research and Development and Biotechnology, School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, highlighted their achievements: the successful establishment and implementation of the joint master's program "Safety in the Food Chain"; co-publication of 33 papers in ISI/Scopus journals and 23 conference papers; and the receipt of the Bernd Rode Award in 2022.
The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Philipp Agathonos, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to Vietnam, and is expected to facilitate the advancement of HUST's ELITECH Programs.
SCOPE OF COOPERATION BETWEEN HUST AND BOKU
- Exchange of doctoral and master students;
- Exchange of faculty members and research/technical experts for short-term visits;
- Design of collaborative research projects;
- Development and implementation of joint seminars, training-courses or conferences;
- Exchange of scholarly publications and information in areas of mutual interest.
