As Vietnam's leading university of science and technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) is an ideal destination for many international students for academic and cultural exchange. In the first weeks of the 2025-2026 academic year, HUST has welcomed numerous international student delegations to participate in experiential programs.
The TF-SCALE Program
On September 15, 2025, the opening ceremony for the Temasek Foundation Specialist Community Action and Leadership Exchange (TF-SCALE) 2025 program was held at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. This is an annual collaborative activity between HUST and Temasek Polytechnic (Singapore), sponsored by the Temasek Foundation, Singapore's leading non-profit organization in capacity building, educational exchange, and community engagement in Asia.

The cooperative relationship between Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Temasek Polytechnic has been built over many years with the shared goal of creating opportunities for students from both institutions to interact, learn, and develop leadership skills. TF-SCALE is a clear testament to this strong and enduring bond.
The program not only creates opportunities for academic exchange among ASEAN students but also bridges geographical distances, helping international students meet, share, and experience together.
Each year, the program offers 16-20 students from each institution the chance to participate in a two-week exchange in Singapore and two weeks in Hanoi, Thailand, or the Philippines.

This September, 16 students and 2 faculty members from Singapore are participating in the program at HUST. They are representatives from the fields of Chemistry, Food Technology & Nutrition, Medical Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Science, and Veterinary Technology at Temasek Polytechnic. They will join HUST students in a series of specialized lectures delivered by faculty from the School of Chemical and Life Science.
Additionally, students will engage in exciting, practical projects: from surveying the ingredients in popular cosmetic products at supermarkets to analyzing their functions and comparing them with the manufacturer's declared information. This is a highly application-oriented learning method that helps students grasp professional knowledge while honing their research and critical thinking skills.
Participating in TF-SCALE 2025, students have the opportunity to explore the culture and beauty of Vietnam. The cultural and community activities in the program are coordinated by the External Affairs Office at HUST to provide students with authentic and engaging experiences.

Students will volunteer at the Vụn Art project, where people with disabilities find hope through handcrafted products; learn about the identities of Vietnam's 54 ethnic groups at the National Culture and Tourism Village; learn how to brew Vietnamese coffee with an artisan; participate in sports exchanges with HUST students; and visit the Vinasoy soy milk factory—one of the largest and most modern facilities in Southeast Asia.
These activities help broaden students' practical knowledge, cultural diversity, the value of community sharing, and the spirit of regional solidarity, true to the "learning to serve" philosophy that the program champions.
Also this September, HUST will select 16 outstanding students for the next leg of the journey: a two-week exchange in Singapore in March 2026, along with 64 other students from Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines. This is an opportunity for HUST students to demonstrate their capabilities, share knowledge, affirm their creative spirit, and enhance the image of Vietnam's young generation in the eyes of international friends.
The Science Tokyo-AYSEAS Program
Also this past week, on September 17, Hanoi University of Science and Technology hosted the Science Tokyo-AYSEAS 2025 Program.
This annual program began in 2007 and has been held in Vietnam four times. This year, 31 students are participating from member universities: Tokyo University of Science, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Thammasat University, Kasetsart University, Chulalongkorn University, De La Salle University, University of the Philippines Diliman, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Science Tokyo-AYSEAS is a joint educational program organized annually by the Tokyo University of Science and its partner universities, connecting students from institutions in Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam. Through field trips, discussions, and interactions with students from diverse backgrounds, AYSEAS participants learn about and experience the cultures of rapidly developing Asian nations.
During the 10-day study tour in Hanoi, the student delegation will visit universities, agencies, and businesses such as: Hanoi University of Science and Technology; the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam; JVB Vietnam Joint Stock Company; Thuyloi University; Secoin Building Material Corporation; and TOTO Vietnam Co., Ltd.
Students will work in groups, exchange ideas and knowledge, and give a presentation at the end of the program. These activities of learning, knowledge sharing, and cultural exchange are hallmarks of the Science Tokyo-AYSEAS program and serve as a cultural bridge for the young international generation.
At the welcoming reception for the student delegation, Assoc. Prof. Chử Mạnh Hưng, Deputy Director of the External Affairs Office at HUST, shared: "We are living in an era where research exchange and international academic cooperation have become critically important. The AYSEAS 2025 program contributes to developing the next generation of global citizens—young leaders who are not only well-trained but also creative, responsible, and dedicated to the advancement of society. I hope this visit to Hanoi will bring you memorable experiences, valuable lessons, and lasting friendships."
