Outstanding master's and PhD candidates receiving the 2025 scholarships
This afternoon (March 20), Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) hosted the 2025 Postgraduate Scholarship Award Ceremony to honor graduate students and doctoral candidates for their exceptional academic and research achievements. As an annual initiative within the university's financial aid framework, the program is designed to foster a culture of academic excellence at advanced educational levels.
The event was attended by Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Phong Dien, Vice President of HUST, alongside leadership representatives from various academic schools.
With an annual budget of 4 billion VND, the scholarship program underscores HUST’s steadfast commitment to empowering young researchers. During this cohort, 139 outstanding individuals were recognized, comprising 135 master's students and 4 PhD candidates. Notably, 8 master's students and 1 PhD candidate from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering were awarded the highest-tier scholarships.
Data indicates that the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering led the cohort with 37 awardees, followed closely by the School of Mechanical Engineering and the School of Information and Communication Technology. Furthermore, scholarships were awarded to highly qualified candidates from the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Economics and Management, the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, and the Faculty of Engineering Physics. This financial support not only alleviates the economic burden on learners but also fuels their drive to steadfastly pursue their specialized research goals.

Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Phong Dien commended the top performers and expressed his expectations for their continued, practical contributions to science and technology. He noted that earlier that morning, he had participated in a consultative meeting for a draft Government Decree regarding postgraduate scholarships—a move aimed at driving innovation in alignment with the Politburo's Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW (dated December 22, 2024).
At the event, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Phong Dien announced a major policy shift: Starting in 2026, HUST will grant full tuition waivers to all newly enrolled PhD candidates. Building on the 4-billion-VND allocation for 2025, he aims to increase the scholarship fund by 50% next year to support an even broader base of learners, creating an optimal environment for postgraduate students to maximize their potential. This decisive step operationalizes the Politburo’s strategic directives on accelerating national breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.

Representing the awardees, Mr. Luong Tien Khanh—a master’s student in Control Engineering and Automation—expressed his deep gratitude for the university's proactive support. He emphasized that this financial backing significantly reduces economic pressure, enabling students to focus intensely on highly applied research projects. The scholarship serves as both a profound recognition and a vital source of motivation for their rigorous academic journeys.
