Mái nhà chung Bách khoa – nơi tình người ấm áp giữa những ngày lễ trọng đại

For four days, from August 30 to September 2, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) opened its dormitories free of charge, welcoming and providing accommodation for 1,500 people from provinces and cities across the country who had traveled to Hanoi to attend the parades and processions commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2).

Immediately after registration opened, the number of applications reached 1,500 within a single day, surpassing the initially planned capacity of 1,200. Faced with this overwhelming demand, the HUST Presidential Board promptly directed a review of all available dormitory rooms and instructed the HUST Center for Services and Support to implement additional contingency plans.
Numerous dormitory blocks were cleaned, sanitized, and equipped with essential supplies to accommodate the visitors in a timely manner. Thanks to swift preparations and a strong sense of responsibility, the university successfully met the housing needs, ensuring that all registered individuals were accepted and felt secure and trusted upon their arrival in Hanoi for the momentous event.

To meet the significant demand, not only the university's leadership and staff but also the HUST alumni and student network quickly joined forces to provide support. The "Bách khoa spirit"—always ready to serve the community—was clearly demonstrated through timely coordination and the partnership of the Hanoi Beer Alcohol and Beverage Joint Stock Corporation (Habeco), which donated over 10,000 bottles of water. These collective efforts helped provide the public with thoughtful, safe, and warm accommodation during the days of the event.

Throughout the period, staff from the Center for Services and Support, along with student volunteers from the HUST Youth Union, were on duty 24/7. They were always present in the dormitory area to guide, assist, and care for the visitors. From welcoming guests and arranging rooms to ensuring security and sanitation and distributing water and light meals, every task was carried out meticulously and with the highest sense of responsibility.

Sharing her thoughts on this work, Ms. Nguyễn Thị Hồng Minh, a staff member at the Center for Services and Support, expressed: “Although these were public holidays when many families chose to travel or enjoy recreational activities, I felt very honored to stay behind and contribute in a small way to help our fellow citizens. Seeing the smiles and the sense of security on people's faces as they were welcomed at HUST gave us even more motivation to work with all our hearts.”

During the event, many people from distant provinces and cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Ca Mau, Binh Dinh, Quang Tri, and Lao Cai sought accommodation at the HUST dormitories. Among them were not only young families but also war veterans, all of whom expressed their deep appreciation for the thoughtful and dedicated reception from the university.

Mr. Hồ Thiện Sinh from Binh Dinh province, who returned to Hanoi to attend the parade after completing two years of military service, shared emotionally just after checking into his room: “I am truly surprised and moved by the warmth of the HUST faculty and students. Not only is the accommodation clean and comfortable, but we also received dedicated guidance and support. This will undoubtedly be an unforgettable memory during this grand occasion.”

More than just a duty, the presence of staff and student volunteers on these special days spread a spirit of sharing and dedication—a long-standing beautiful tradition of the HUST community.

Sharing in the joy and emotion of the visitors, the HUST student volunteers also considered this a special and proud experience, as well as an opportunity for personal development. Hundreds of young people in their blue volunteer shirts were present from early morning until late at night, assisting people with everything from check-in, carrying luggage, and providing daily living instructions to the smallest tasks like bringing water and sweeping the hallways. Many students postponed their holiday plans with their families to fully dedicate themselves to this activity, hoping to provide the utmost comfort and peace of mind for the visitors.

Nguyễn Quang Hiệu, a K69 student from the School of Engineering Physics and a member of the volunteer team, shared with pride: “It is a great honor for us to directly support and accompany people during these special days. Every smile and every word of thanks from them is the motivation for us to give our all.”

This spirit is not just about individual enthusiasm; it reflects a beautiful tradition passed down through generations of HUST students—always ready to take the lead and engage in important missions for the community and the country. Through simple yet meaningful activities like these, the image of HUST students is further enhanced in the eyes of society: Responsible - Creative - Honest - Excellent, compassionate, and proud to contribute during the nation's most significant moments.

With the university's thorough preparation, the joint efforts of the alumni network, and the support of corporate partners, the initiative to host citizens at the HUST dormitories not only provided convenient and safe accommodation but also powerfully conveyed the message of “Responsibility to the Nation – Commitment to the Community” and the pride of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
