The moment Nguyen Thuy Duong, a student majoring in International Professional English at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, was selected as one of the five HUST students representing the Ministry of Education and Training to participate in the Intellectual Block of the A80 parade celebrating the 80th National Day (September 2), she realized that all her diligent efforts over the past three years had borne sweet fruit. This was not only a personal joy but also the shared pride of the collective students of Vietnam's leading technical and technological university – Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Self-Discipline Opens Opportunities

Before making her own mark at A80, Nguyen Thuy Duong had already achieved many outstanding accomplishments in her studies and extracurricular activities. For Duong, her three years at HUST have been filled with experiences and ceaseless learning. She has consecutively won Type A Study Encouragement Scholarships, participated in organizing numerous events for the School and the University, and won Second Prize in the Student Scientific Research competition. Thuy Duong has maintained a stable performance with a CPA of 3.83 thanks to her ability to balance studying, extracurricular activities, and soft skills development.

It was this spirit of discipline, relentless effort, and thirst for knowledge that helped Duong mature and become more confident on her path to conquering major goals. Honored to be chosen alongside four other HUST students to represent the Ministry of Education and Training in the ranks of the A80 Intellectual Block, Nguyen Thuy Duongg had a dream opportunity: To attend the nation's momentous event – the Celebration of the 80th National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. This was an occasion for young intellectuals across the country to affirm their spirit of responsibility, patriotism, and aspiration to contribute to the Fatherland.

For Duong, that moment was a great honor, marking an important milestone in her journey of maturity. With this unforgettable experience, Thuy Duong cherishes the companionship of her HUST teachers – the ambassadors of knowledge who grant students many opportunities to develop and shine.

The Silent Companions

Nguyen Thuy Duong has always loved the HUST environment for its dynamism, openness, and development opportunities for students. Recently, this student from the Faculty of Foreign Languages won a study exchange scholarship to Plymouth Marjon University (United Kingdom). Behind Nguyen Thuy Duong's brilliant journey is the dedicated companionship of the teachers at the Faculty of Foreign Languages. Notable among them is Ms. Đậu Thị Lê Hiếu, Program Director of International Professional English, who directly supported Duong during the visa procedure stage, helping her overcome initial difficulties. Additionally, the inspiring stories from Ms. Nguyễn Mỹ Bình, a lecturer at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, also gave Duong the confidence to explore the world.

"The stories Ms. Bình shared about studying abroad and the achievements she attained gave me the confidence to boldly try for the study exchange program abroad. Thanks to her, I dared to step out of my comfort zone to experience new things," the HUST student shared.

There were times when she felt disoriented when things did not go as expected; Thuy Duong felt anxious, not knowing what to do next. Fortunately, she received caring and dedicated help from the lecturers of the Faculty of Foreign Languages. The teachers not only comforted and encouraged Duong, assuring her that there were many other opportunities ahead, but also directly supported her in refining her application and introducing new directions. Thanks to that companionship, Duong gradually regained her confidence and continued to strive for her goals.

The enthusiasm, proactive spirit, and readiness to face any challenge shown by Ms. Nguyen My Binh while helping Thuy Duong refine her study abroad application deeply moved the student and filled her with gratitude. Ms. Binh changed Duong's mindset regarding learning as well as her perspective on life: Only when we are proactive and thoroughly prepared can we grasp precious opportunities, instead of letting them slip away regrettably.
